EMDR Therapy
Healing that goes beyond words.
In-Person in Dallas and Online Across TX & NJ
When you’ve been through something traumatic, sometimes talking about it doesn’t help you fully heal.
Our bodies hold onto so much from our past, usually without us even realizing it. If you’ve ever felt a pit in your stomach or a rush of anxiety when you’re reminded of something or someone from your past, you know what we mean. These responses (and others that may be so ingrained that we don’t notice them) are communicators to us...We may not understand yet what they are communicating, but it’s usually an effort to protect us physically or emotionally. However, these responses can be troubling when they continue to come up after the danger is in the past.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can help you understand and cope with symptoms of painful experiences. This evidence-based treatment, proven through much research over the years, uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping on different parts of the body) to help your brain move through and resolve memories that may be “stuck.”
Through this process, you’ll be able to be more present in your life and feel unburdened from the pain of the past, for the long run.

What To Expect When Starting EMDR
1
Get in touch
We know that reaching out for help is a huge step, and we hope you feel proud of taking this initiative.
Once you’ve submitted an inquiry form on our contact page, a member of our team will reach out to schedule a consultation with a therapist who is EMDR trained and suited to your needs. On this consultation call, you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you may have and determine if you feel the therapist you’ve been matched with is a good fit. If they are, you’ll be able to schedule your first appointment, which will either take place in-person in Dallas or Frisco, TX, or online from anywhere in Texas or New Jersey.
2
Get expert EMDR therapy tailored to you
In all the work we’ll do together, it’s so important to us that you feel safe and valued. Know that we won’t force you to talk about or do anything you don’t want to—you have choices here.
EMDR occurs in 8 phases, not all of which will involve eye movement exercises. Through all of these phases, your highly skilled therapist will be there to guide and support you every step of the way.
To start, the sessions will look a lot like regular talk therapy sessions. Over time, your therapist will provide resources and tools that will help you through the EMDR process. A part of this process will include connecting to the distressing memory in a way that feels safe and not overwhelming. Your therapist will guide you through noticing thoughts and images that come up, as well as emotions and sensations in your body.
Then, as you reprocess memories, you’ll reframe troubling thoughts into new, positive ones that reinforce your sense of self.
3
Get “unstuck” & face the future with confidence
In the end, the memories that once caused distress will no longer trouble you the same way. They’ll be filed away in your mind, and you’ll be able to move forward—feeling more grounded and safe in the present and having a sense of inner peace that you may not have realized was missing before.
You’ll walk away with the perspective and skills you need to be your best self, and walk into the future without fear.
No matter what you’ve been through, there is a path forward.
Take the first step today.
Common questions about EMDR therapy in Texas
What is EMDR?
EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a thoroughly researched treatment proven effective for various personal and emotional challenges. It's a body-based technique using bilateral stimulation, aimed at resolving unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain.
During EMDR, your therapist guides you through specific protocols using bilateral stimulation. This process reduces the distress linked to traumatic memories, shifting their impact and moving them into the past.
Ultimately, EMDR aims to offer new perspectives and understanding, fostering healthy behaviors post-processing and resolution of traumatic experiences.
How long does EMDR take?
A typical EMDR therapy session lasts from 60 to 90 minutes. The length of sessions and duration of treatment are different depending on the individual and their level of need. However, many who have gone through EMDR have reported finding relief from symptoms in less time than when using other therapy methods.
How are the EMDR intensives you offer different from regular EMDR sessions?
Intensive sessions allow for more concentrated time to work with core memories that are associated with your present-day problems. These longer sessions, oftentimes a couple of hours in length, allow more time and space to resolve larger portions of the unresolved experiences. You can learn more about intensives here.
What kind of training do your therapists have in EMDR?
Each therapist at White Rock Therapy has completed EMDR basic training and has been approved by the EMDR International Association’s (EMDRIA) standards and guidelines.
Stephanie Clanton, LPC-S, is additionally Certified in EMDR and a Consultant, credentials beyond the EMDR training. For clinicians seeking EMDR consultation, you can learn more here.
Can EMDR be done online?
Yes, EMDR can be done online. We offer virtual sessions where you can use video chat to connect with your therapist, and use platforms like Bilateral Base to help incorporate the physical elements of EMDR virtually. This ensures the effectiveness of EMDR can still be experienced through online sessions. It's a flexible and accessible way to work through challenging experiences and emotions from the comfort of your own space.
