In the wake of trauma, it can be difficult to stay afloat.
Even if it’s been years, the ripple effects of a traumatic experience—whether it was singular or ongoing—can continue to show up in your emotions, reactions, and relationships. It can become difficult to keep up with your responsibilities and engage with day-to-day tasks the way you’d like to, because it feels like your mind is always somewhere else. Or you may find it hard to feel close to the people you love, to fully trust others, or even to trust yourself.
Perhaps a major life event or a new source of stress has made you realize that something isn’t working in your life. You might be trying to overcome anxiety or depression and are ready to find clarity by delving into your past. Or, you might not be sure how to define what you're going through. It could be trauma, or it might not neatly fit a label—that's okay, too.
But the things you’ve tried so far haven’t really made a difference in helping you feel less anxious, fearful, irritable, or angry, and maybe you’re not sure what actually would help. The one thing you do feel sure of, though, is that it’s time to make a change.

Whatever your story, we’re here to support you.
Know that there is hope.
Common Trauma-Related Conditions Include:
Complex Trauma or C-PTSD
Complex trauma is the result of ongoing tough or painful experiences. A lot of times, folks dealing with this felt trapped or without hope for things to improve. It often stems from childhood abuse or neglect, but it's not limited to that. It can also stem from things like being in combat, enduring abusive relationships, or surviving human trafficking.
The signs of complex PTSD, also known as C-PTSD, often mirror the symptoms listed above, but can be more intense and cause long-term issues.
Dissociation or Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociation is a kind of mental compartmentalization—it separates thoughts, memories, emotions, and how we see ourselves and others. Sometimes, after going through something painful, our minds learn to dissociate to shield us from handling overwhelming thoughts and feelings.
At White Rock Therapy, we specialize in supporting individuals living with various forms of dissociation, including those with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Formerly known as multiple personality disorder, DID has often been misunderstood, which may have made it difficult for those experiencing it to seek help. But DID is actually a coping mechanism—it helps manage ongoing trauma and allows functioning as best as possible day-to-day.
Some signs of Dissociative Identity Disorder include:
The presence of two or more distinct identities or personalities
Memory loss or gaps in memory
Identity confusion
Rapid mood shifts
Depersonalization

We want to help shoulder the burden you’ve been carrying by hearing your story and taking it seriously. We will never force you to talk about or do anything you don’t want to—you have choices here.

Some of the therapy modalities we use include…
Somatic Therapy for Trauma & PTSD
This therapy focuses on how the body holds onto trauma. It helps by using body awareness and movements to ease the impact of tough experiences.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Ego State Therapy
These approaches help you to think of the different “parts” of your mind like a family. IFS helps you understand and heal those different parts, while Ego State Therapy looks at how various "states" in your mind affect your behavior.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-backed approach that uses eye movements or bilateral stimulation to help process and heal distressing memories or experiences, reducing their impact on your life.
3
Get the peace of mind you’ve been missing
When you’ve lived through trauma, your mind and body hold on to certain habits and coping skills that once protected you or made you feel safe. That is completely normal and understandable.
Once you’ve worked through your past experiences, you’ll be able to let go of those old coping mechanisms and have a sense of inner peace that may have seemed unattainable before. Through therapy, you can find relief from the symptoms and painful memories and feel a joy that cannot be forced.
Though the past can’t be undone or completely erased from memory, you can reclaim the present. We hope to help you feel confident in your strengths, who you are as a person, and who you are becoming.
You can heal from what’s happened…
& open your heart to what’s next.
